With twenty six days to go until the 2011 Video Music Awards, Lil Wayne has injected a little fun into the campaign, further building anticipation for his upcoming performance following the release of the channels first VMA promo spot starring the New Orleans superstar.

In the clip, a vibrant dressed Weezy (neon glasses and all) throws one big ole' party that kicks off with Tunechi tagging a dark elevator that includes the names of his various Young Money homies and his Hollygrove stomping grounds. Weezy then single-handedly knocks down the same elevator door only to find himself surrounded by a gaggle of partygoers. As a teenaged rapper with the Cash Money Records outfit in his native New Orleans, a young Dwayne Carter certainly dreamed that he would one day hit it big as a rapper. With a sell-out nationwide tour, a highly anticipated album and a roster of artists under his own Young Money imprint, all signs point to the idea that Lil Wayne has done well for himself. Since his release from jail late 2010, Weezy F. Baby has been on a creative and musical tear with his “I Am Still Music” tour on its second leg already. Considering Wayne’s humble beginnings, he should be counted as a success story.

For this year’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards performances, Lil Wayne will join co-headliner acts R&B singer Chris Brown and British songbird Adele. The burning question fans will possibly ponder is which of Lil Wayne’s recent material he should rock for the VMA audience. With such a high profile show and the entire media universe training their sights on him, Wayne could opt to play it safe with a slower number or will he wow the crowd with a high energy offering? Lil Wayne isn’t the only star back on the comeback trail. Talented R&B entertainer Chris Brown has made the long climb back to prominence after a fateful night in 2009 nearly derailed his promising career. A domestic dispute that year which turned violent between he and then-girlfriend pop songstress Rihanna was tabloid and media fodder for months causing Chris Brown to defiantly go underground to reinvent himself.

Fast forward to 2011 and all signs point to Breezy moving past the incident – although not without an outburst or two – and delivering his fourth studio album F.A.M.E. with much fanfare and getting the coveted Billboard 200 #1 spot during its first week of release. Hot singles and videos such as the rap-heavy single “Look At Me Now” and the electro pop-tinged “Beautiful People” making the rounds. A fourth single “She Ain’t You” was released as well.
