With the news of Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé expecting their first child as the hot topic of discussion in the music industry, it would be no surprise if the floodgates were to open for many more hip-hop couples to follow in their path. Paparazzi just about fell off their pedestals on the black carpet when the R&B diva flashed her growing belly as she made her toward the entrance to the 2011 Video Music Awards.

Prior to Beyoncé's entrance, another couple who also graced the red carpet and have flirted with the possibility of walking down the aisle and becoming parents, was none other than Wiz Khalifa and girlfriend Amber Rose. Read More...

Among the biggest surprises at last night's (August 28) 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, none was more jaw-dropping than Beyoncé, wife of rap icon Jay-Z, sporting a brand-new baby bump. During her VMA performance of "Love on Top," Bey revealed the bump in its entire splendor by opening her sequined tuxedo top and rubbing her protruding belly while an excited Kanye West cheered on his friend and proud papa-to-be Jay-Z. The big reveal of the baby-to-be culminates Jay-Z’s long-running desire to be a father, something the rapper has spoken upon many times over the course of his career.

Back in 2008, the Brooklyn rap vet told reporters at U.N.A. Global Leadership Awards Gala in New York that he’d be delighted to join the ranks of fatherhood. “Most people dream of having a family someday," Jay-Z said vaguely to reporters. "So I'm just a regular American boy.”

In a detailed interview with Oprah Winfrey back in 2009, Jay-Z spoke of his estranged relationship with his own father and also discussed how marriage has changed him for the better. While he didn't directly speak about parenthood with Oprah, Jay-Z did say that "taking care of my family" was important to him. That same year, Jay-Z gave an interview to Gotham magazine in which he revealed plans to start a family although Beyoncé at the time had other plans and wanted to focus on her career. Read More...

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards last night (August 28) gave the audience in attendance and the fans at home plenty of thrills and a few surprise moments amid the pomp of the large affair. From Lady Gaga’s total transformation into Jo Calderone to Kanye West and Jay-Z shocking audiences with a performance of "Otis" as unannounced performers – not to mention Jay’s wife’s big baby bump reveal – the VMAs were a smash. Some of the award wins were a big shock as well with the band of foul-mouthed misfits Odd Future and their de facto leader Tyler, the Creator winning big.

In the tightly contested Best New Artist category, Kanye West protégé Big Sean, Bay Area newbie sensation Kreayshawn, the ultra-cool Wiz Khalifa, indie rockers Foster the People and controversial potty-mouthed rapper Tyler, the Creator were all vying for the coveted VMA Moonman. Tyler, the Creator won the award, and his profanity-laced acceptance speech was preceded by a slip and fall on his way to the stage. Read More...

As this year’s MTV Video Music Awards came to a close last night (August 28), Young Money honcho Lil Wayne and his show-ending performance was a much-discussed topic among fans and industry insiders who had been clamoring to discover what exactly the New Orleans native would bring to the VMA stage. The murmurs were hushed finally near the conclusion of the VMAs, and although it began slowly, Lil Wayne hyped up the audience by suddenly morphing into full rock-star mode.

Starting with his hit rap ballad “How To Love,” Wayne lulled the crowd with his Auto-Tuned vocals before ramping up the energy to 10 with a rock-fueled rendition of his single “John” (sans the feature verse from Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross). Rapping partly over the actual vocals from the track, Lil Wayne dashed madly about the stage while delivering his verses and even jumped into the crowd to salute Ross during the track’s hook.
