Young Jeezy Calls For Community Effort In Trayvon Martin Case

Members of the hip-hop community have continued to show their support for slain teen Trayvon Martin, who was murdered while walking through a gated community in Florida last month. Stars such as Big Boi, Wyclef Jean and ?uestlove have spread the word about the tragic shooting via their social media accounts and when MTV News caught up with Young Jeezy in Las Vegas this week, the Atlanta rapper expressed his support for the effort to find justice for the 17-year-old. "I feel very deeply as a community leader and as a product of my culture," Jeezy said. "I feel like we all got to get together and stop this, 'cause I have a son his age and I just feel like that could've been either of our children." Read More...

Trayvon Martin Case: Questlove, Big Boi, John Legend Rally On Teen's Behalf

Hip-hop artists and public figures are coming together to support the case of murdered teen Trayvon Martin. There has been national uproar around the incident in which a neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, shot and killed 17-year-old Martin in Sanford, Florida last month. Martin was walking home through a gated community, unarmed, when Zimmerman followed him. According to the LA Times, Martin was carrying only a cellphone, Skittles and iced tea. Members of the hip-hop community, including Questlove, Big Boi, Wyclef Jean and John Legend have all been rallying on the teen's behalf via social media.  Read More...

Last night's Basketball Wives may as well have been dubbed the "let's fire shots at Kenya and then talk about her behind her back" episode. From her music to her looks, the girls had little nice to say about Kenya Bell. "Her weave looks like a wig. Like it's a little to the left," Evelyn Lozada muses when she first meets the newcomer. Basketball Wives' Tami Roman is not mincing words when it comes to newcomer cast mates Kesha Nichols and Kenya Bell. In a special sit-down with MTV's RapFix, the very opinionated Tami was asked about her thoughts on the new girls. After ignoring the topic of Kesha altogether--Tami had nothing nice to say so she won't say anything at all (Ouch!)--Tami shares that she can somewhat tolerate Kenya over Kesha. The fourth wall was literally demolished and the audience enjoyed a bird's eye view into the world of reality television, narrated by executive producer Mona Scott-Young. We learned that the idea of the show began seven years ago when rapper Jim Jones pitched a reality show concept about his life. Add in fiancé Chrissy Lampkin and the gaggle of women around Jim (his mother Mama Jones, manager Yandy Smith, friends Olivia Longott and Emily Bustamante, fellow artist Somaya Reece and ancillary character Erica Mena) and "Love & Hip-Hop 2" was born. 'Love & Hip Hop' Gets An Atlanta Spinoff, Recap Special

Season 2 of VH1’s “Love & Hip-Hop” wrapped up last month and despite speculation that Miami or Los Angeles spin-offs might follow, an Atlanta season will actually be up next. VH1 has confirmed that there will indeed be an Atlanta-based spinoff to look forward to.
