Award winning veteran dancehall artist Vybz Kartel was formally charged Monday (October 3) night with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to murder. The 35-year-old was originally arrested last Friday (September 30) for marijuana possession.

A news release from police officials said that Vybz, born Adidja Palmer, was questioned by detectives from Jamaica’s Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) with Palmer’s attorneys present. A preliminary hearing for today was rescheduled after a miscommunication on the court docket resulted in a no-show from the singer. Read More...

When longtime rapper and rising business mogul Jay-Z to added the title author to his growing list of accomplishments, fans snatched up his debut book Decoded in droves – which helped to make the part biography and lyrics cheat sheet a bestseller on the New York Times list.

Penned alongside Hip Hop writer and editor dream hampton, Jay’s book offered fans access to the inner workings and early life of the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn native. The veteran rapper's breakdown of some of his most well-known works within the book was a revealing inside look into what inspired Jay’s lyrics and their double meanings. Southern rap mainstay and rowdy party starter Waka Flocka Flame found himself on the receiving end of some unexpected blows during what should have been considered by most to be an event free of violence.

Last Thursday (September 29) evening at a charity bowling event, gossip site TMZ reported and debuted reader donated footage of Waka Flocka Flame and his entourage in the middle of a fracas with a former protégé who slugged the rapper – which was reportedly over Waka catching the blow behind owed funds to the unnamed assailant. As expected, a melee broke out as a result of the unprovoked punch which led to Waka chasing the puncher down and his crew jumping in to nab and rain down blows on the man. Read More...

Atlanta was a hotbed of activity this weekend with the BET Awards Hip-Hop Awards going down Saturday (October 1) night. With all the celebrities in town to partake of the ceremonies, clubs in the southern mecca were packed to the nines with fans looking to rub elbows with stars hosting and hobnobbing at the event. However, one big time star may have stepped out of line with an outburst that was less than welcoming.

Sean “Diddy” Combs held an event last night at club Compound alongside the recently freed T.I. and the two rap titans presided over the event while revelers delighted in music and good times after the awards show. Funny how time flies, so goes the saying.

Since the late 80s, iconic rap quartet A Tribe Called Quest has captivated Hip Hop listeners who still rabidly debate the merits of the veteran rap group’s second album. Released in September of 1991, The Low End Theory ushered in a more aggressive sound for the crew – going away from the sample loop heavy offerings of their debut People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.

Whereas the preceding album managed to highlight front man Q-Tip as the face of Tribe, Low End was fellow microphone rocker Phife Dawg’s coming out party. Not so fast, says Ray J about the supposed collaboration between him and recently vanquished pro boxer Victor Ortiz.

The younger brother of R&B singer and actress Brandy said that a recently leaked track featuring his vocals and the raps of Ortiz never actually happened. The reality TV star and singer also closed the book on the alleged dustup he had with rapper Fabolous at a Floyd Mayweather victory after party in Vegas.

As a guest yesterday afternoon (September 29) on Shade 45’s The All Out Show, Ray J spoke on the news bits and is doing his best to move past the Fab situation. “You gotta grow from that," Ray J said. Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has become a force of nature outside his notable and long running rap career. The savvy businessman continues to find ways to turn his Hip Hop fortunes into entrepreneurial gold. Branching outside the chase for profit gains, Jay-Z began the Shawn Cater Foundation alongside his mother Gloria in 2002. With the aim of providing assistance to potential college students facing economic hardships, the SC Foundation and Jay-Z sponsored an event last night (September 29) in hopes to raise funds for college scholarships.

The Making The Ordinary Extraordinary event was held at the Hudson River Park pier where Jay-Z played host to a bevy of thrill seekers all while drumming up dollars for a worthy cause. The noble and big-hearted gesture from Jay was cemented by comments from the Watch The Throne rapper as he detailed his overall aim for putting the event together. "Just providing opportunity and seeing what people do with that opportunity. If you want to go further and you want to further your education, just giving someone that extra little push [so] that maybe you'll turn out to be someone special," Jay shared with MTV News. It appears that a war of words is heating up of epic proportions between two of the rap game’s best at slinging verbal insults.

Former allies and now foes G-Unit General 50 Cent and West Coast rhyme vet Game haven’t been friendly over the years after their very public feud that has been brewing since 2005. While there have been slight attempts to patch up the beef, it appears that Fif has clearly chosen to keep the division aflame after dropping a blistering dis track “Love, Hate, Love” this week in where the South Jamaica, Queens rapper gets at both Game and Young Money captain Lil Wayne.

While Lil Wayne opted to take the high road and not acknowledge 50’s jabs thus far, The Game took to Twitter to address the track – but not before doing some damage control after his home page was reportedly hacked. Read More...
