Much of the attention on TDE as of late has been focused on Kendrick Lamar’s GQ Magazine cover story and the “racial overtone” debate that followed. However, Schoolboy Q made a statement with a new release, “Man of The Year.” The track appears on the NBA Live ‘14 soundtrack, as the game franchise returns after a four year hiatus.

Joining Q on the soundtrack powered by DJ MICK (formerly known as MICK Boogie) is Lorde, Angel Haze, El-P, Killer Mike. Pusha T, Danny Brown, Action Bronson and Joey Bada$$.

The infectious headbanging chorus has Q captivating listeners in a trance like state. “Bruh I see, girls everywhere hands in the air. It’s a party over here. Shake it for the man of the year. Uh ma-man of the year. Ma-man of the bounce,” raps the TDE artist.

The song as a whole is completely structured to grab attention on your FM dial, yet provides Q with a mature sound at the same time. The boastful west-coast MC spits, “Peace, love and enemies / Homie I ain’t come for the beef. You ain’t know? I’m player of the week – Player of the week. Homie I’m the life of the beat. Bump that this s—, n—- gotta eat,” in the first verse.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Q explained his approach to making fun records, despite still being dubbed a gangsta rapper. “I happen to make fun records at the same time, that’s what I do. I joke, I bag on n—-s, my personality is like that, but I am a gangster rapper and that’s what I’m gonna bring to the table.”

While NBA Live 14 is available now for PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, Schoolboy Q’s debut studio-album gets one step closer to a release. Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced via Twitter on November 18 that Q’s album release date would be announced early next week. Fans of the TDE camp have something to be thankful for at the Thanksgiving table this year.
