Recently, Cole sat down for the premiere episode of MTV’s “Life & Rhymes.” The rapper returned to his old apartment in Jamaica, Queens and discusses the struggles that led to his current success, including the story behind his single “Crooked Smile.”

“We went back to Mohammed crib. I talk about ‘Mohammed crib’ in ‘Power Trip’ — that was my last place in college — so my senior year in college I was there, and then for the broke, struggling period of barely surviving,” Cole said on the special. “So we went back to that crib, shot scenes there, talked about the song “Crooked Smile, all about how I made that song, because it was really a journey.”
