Kendrick Lamar unleashed his critically acclaimed album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, a little over a year ago and throughout 2013 the TDE rapper has continued to reap benefits from his debut studio album. As part of GQ’s Men of the Year issue, Kendrick Lamar is seen gracing the cover and claiming the annual Rapper of the Year title. The Compton artist’s cover line reads, “The Next King Of Rap Kendrick Lamar Claims The Throne In Our Men Of The Year Issue.”

GQ’s feature on K.Dot offers some terrific insight to the rappers mindset, post “Control.” According to Complex, when asked about his relationship with Drake, Kendrick told the publication the two were “pretty cool.” He would go on to be quoted as saying, “I mean, I would be okay if we weren’t.”

Drake seemed to be feeling a certain way about Kendrick’s verse and K-Dot responded in his BET cypher verse. While on the subject of that much talked about feature, Kendrick recounted attending Diddy’s VMA after-party, which seemed to boost his confidence to greater lengths. “I only go when there’s a point. Usually the point is just n—-s drinking. But walking through the club the week after I released the ‘Control’ verse? That’s a point!”

A handful of Hip-Hop’s elite have, at some point, graced the cover of the style publication, including 50 Cent, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Jay-Z and Drake, putting Kendrick Lamar among some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names. Check Kendrick Lamar on tour with Kanye West, as the Yeezus tour gets back on track Saturday (November 16) in Philadelphia.
