RapFix handpicks a few UK hip-hop and grime gems for the week. Artists include Blade Brown, Context, Mike Skinner, and Squeeks.

Blade Brown Feat. Mental K & SDG – “Showtime”

Although Jay Z declared the death of Auto-Tune in 2009, we’ll let this next one slide. South London’s Blade Brown draws for the voice-manipulating tool on “Showtime,” as he rides an orchestral trap backdrop with more money-on-the-mind chat. Newcomers Mental K and SDG also feature.

Context – “Small Town Lad Sentiments” (Mike Skinner Remix)

With everyone comparing Context to Mike Skinner, it was only a matter of time before the two lyricists bucked heads. Much to Context’s delight, he met his idol a couple of months ago and ended up collaborating with him on a project. But instead of going bar-for-bar on a track together, Skinner took to his production lab to cook up an uplifting (man, those keys!), almost soulful house remix of Context’s latest single, “Small Town Lad Sentiments.” The Streets frontman directed a new video to go with it, too.

Squeeks – “My Scars”

Squeeks has been one of the more consistent UK rappers, releasing solid mixtape after solid mixtape. The north Londoner’s most recent compilation of street tracks is titled Presidential Musiq – which features the loved-up cut, “My Scars.” Wifey? Check. Car? Check. Now cruise…
