Joey Bada$$ finally responded to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” on a new track. Joey dropped “Killuminati Pt. 2″ as his way of defending New York hip-hop.

The Pro Era rapper calls out Kendrick for his “King of NY” claim: “It’s nathan [nothing] all I gotta do is just spit a flame/No escaping/You in a swimming pool of champagne/You set yourself up for that one mane/The king of New York,’ huh?/We ain’t just gonna let that one hang.” Joey also name-checks local greats in the hook, saying, “But f—- it I’m Biggie I’m [Big] L I’m [Big] Pun/I’m God’s Son [Nas] I’m Pac, Guru all in one.”

Joey is the latest in a string of responses from rappers in NYC. Last week, A$AP Rocky shared his thoughts on “Control.” “I feel like that ‘King of New York’ sh–, you smokin’ crack. You crazy, you know what I mean?” A$AP told Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97. “If he say he the ‘King of New York,’ laugh at it. But honestly K.Dot and them ni—s, that’s fam, yo.”

Even rappers outside of NYC were ruffled by K Dot’s verse. Seattle’s Macklemore told MTV News that he wanted to get on the mic after hearing the song. “Every single rapper, when that record dropped, spent that night writing angry battle raps,” Macklemore said. “I was definitely one of them. I wasn’t pissed, but for like 48 hours, I was like, ‘Hell no. I’ve gotta step my game up.’ That’s what it is. That’s the beautiful thing about that record. It has people talking. Everyone knows it. Everyone’s competitive.”
