What’s The Best Brooklyn Anthem Of All Time? Vote Now!

They say “It ain’t where you’re from; it’s where you’re at” and maybe that’s true for most spots in the world, but if you’re a Brooklyn native it is definitely about where you’re from. On August 25 MTV will bring the 2013 Video Music Awards to BK’s Barclays Center and while the musical celebration will feature hits of all kinds, we here at RapFix are excited about one type of song in particular: The Brooklyn Anthem.

The Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep till Brooklyn” has become our unofficial VMA theme song, appearing in promo and teases. We also can’t forget Stetasonic’s 1986 classic “Go Stetsa” and its famous “go Brooklyn” chant. Through the years, Jay Z, the Notorious B.I.G., Fabolous, Beastie Boys, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Boot Camp Click have all added on to tradition and came up with their own Brooklyn anthems.

Who could forget the brags and boasts of Hov’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” or the grit and grime of Smif-N-Wessun’s “Bucktown”? Lil Kim added some major Caribbean flavor to “Lighter’s Up” and ODB’s “Brooklyn Zoo” was as wild and unpredictable as the iconic Wu MC.

It’s impossible for us to pick our favorites, so we want your help. From August 14 to August 21 we want you to vote on your favorite Brooklyn dedication. Next week we will tally all of the votes and announce the winner on a very special episode of “RapFix Live,” all leading up to the 2013 VMAs on Sunday August, 25.
