Mobb Deep’s Prodigy is a fan of dance music. Who knew? Last week, the rapper and “H.N.I.C” author put it out there in Twitter land that he wanted to give one of his classics a UK garage makeover, and DJ Q — a well-known British producer — saw the tweet and reached out. Prodigy’s “Gangsta Love,” featuring Esther Seems, has now been transformed into a soon-to-be “UKG” essential.
“I was on twitter and my friend, @illrjana, retweeted Prodigy’s tweet about him wanting a UK garage remix of one of his tracks,” DJ Q explained to RapFix. “I tweeted him back, he followed me, we started going back and forth, and here’s the outcome.”
DJ Q continued: “Prodigy’s a legend, so this is all a bit crazy. I’m more shocked at the fact he likes UK garage, to be honest. I highly respect him for wanting to try new things. As soon as Prodigy showed me the original, I knew it was going to work. Esther’s vocals on the track fit the UK style perfectly.”
Are you a fan of the remix of “Gangsta Love”?
