Over the last decade, DJ Don Cannon has been making a name for himself in the music business. Not only has he DJed with the biggest names and produced for hip-hop’s elite (including 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Nas, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and T.I) but he’s also gained notoriety for his Gangsta Grillz mixtape series, and now he’s making another major move as Vice President of A&R at Island Def Jam Music Group.
On July 8, Karen Kwak, Executive Vice President/Head of A&R at Island Def Jam Music Group announced that Don Cannon had officially been promoted to the new position. “Don Cannon is exactly the kind of multi-faceted producer and modern-day A&R executive who understands the Def Jam mission and culture and where we are headed for the future,” Kwak said in a statement. “He has already worked with some of our most successful artists, and we look forward to the fresh talent he will bring to the label.”
This isn’t the first executive position held by Cannon. He has served as Music Director of Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Shade 45” channel. Under this new deal, Cannon will remain in Atlanta. He will work remotely for New York based Island Def Jam. As VP of A&R, Cannon is sure to rack up a lot of frequent flier miles searching for the next generation of Def Jam superstars.
To show his gratitude for his new position, DJ Don Cannon took to Twitter, writing, “Salute! To All My Supporters.”
