Pharrell’s production skills never cease to amaze (see: the current success of Daft Punk’s “I’m Lucky”) but the artist extraordinaire has also left his mark on fashion, thanks in part to his Billionaire Boys Club clothing line, which celebrated it’s 10-year anniversary with a party and dinner in New York City on Tuesday night (June 4). Guests included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip, and Pharrell tells RapFix that it’s hard to believe a decade has already gone by.
“Us turning 10 years old is unbelievable, knowing that a little before 10 years ago we were just making t-shirts for me exclusively,” he told RapFix of the milestone. “Nigo was a huge part of it, a huge inspiration and backing force. It was my dream to have my own brand and here we are 10 years later. It’s crazy.”
Skateboard P is always juggling his fair share of projects, so even with BBC clothing being around for a decade, he was unable to choose just one stand-a-lone moment that was special to him in the brand’s history. “There were many milestones, but I’m terrible with those things in terms of remembering them for an interview,” he said. “And in terms of challenges, I think when you’re growing [you’re always] refusing to compromise the integrity of what you’re doing and what your original purpose was from the genesis, but that’s never been my issue…[that pressure] just comes from the board.
