It seems like everyone has something to say about Beyoncé’s new track, “Bow Down/ I Been On.” While it seems like a big departure for the star who is usually private, this two part track features a more in your face Beyoncé with lyrics such as, “I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife. Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted, this my sh–t, bow down bitches.” and, “The capital B means I’m ‘bout that life.”
Released on March 17 on Tumblr, the track was produced by Hit-Boy, who won a Grammy for producing Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “N—-s In Paris.” The producer has also worked with heavyweights such as Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. In his “Beat Breakdown” video, he says that “B wanted to make it crazy bouncy, but add the lightheartedness with the crazy R&B cords” and explains just how he came up with the beat for the now highly talked about track.
Originally from Texas, Beyoncé showed off her Houston routes in the second half of the track by declaring, “I’m from that H-town” and incorporating a chopped and screwed beat which features altered vocals into her rap verse, which is a style that was started by the late DJ Screw.
There is still no release date set for the new album, which also includes production from The-Dream and Ne-Yo, but Queen Bey’s 42 city tour, “The Mrs. Carter Show” kicks off on April 15 in Belgrade Serbia.
