Kanye West’s Best Rants From The Last Three Years

For years now, Kanye West has delivered some notorious rants, letting out his frustration on subjects ranging from his public image to the commercial music industry. Ever since he interrupted Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (who could forget, right?), the world has become accustomed to Ye’s uninhibited speech (cue him calling George Bush a racist in 2005.) And all we can say to future Yeezy concert-goers is: prepare yourself. What you think is a short intro to a song could very well turn into a seven minute rant in which Kanye unleashes a whole slew of opinions and emotions. Here’s a list of some of Kanye’s best rants over the past three years:

The Bowery Ballroom, November 2010
This rant from 2010 at a NYC show (where he performed tracks from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) might be the most memorable of all. Yeezy talked about why he initially declared that  Bush didn’t “care about black people” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and he also touched upon the controversial T-Swift VMA incident. We find it amusing that running his mouth leads Kanye to just run his mouth some more.

‘Monster’ Video Censorship, Summer 2011
The Milwaukee Summer Fest: In this emotional rant, Kanye thanks his fans for being there when he was in his “darkest place,” mentioning the loss of his mother who passed away in 2007,  in addition to lashing out at the censorship of his “Monster” video. When Kanye performed at the Big Chill Festival in 2011, he ranted for almost seven minutes, mentioning that even though he’s tired and lonely he will not be phony. “There’s so much bulls— going on in music right now and somebody has to make a f-cking difference,” he said.

Atlantic City, December 2012
Kanye went off at a show in Atlantic City about why he doesn’t support the Grammys, referencing his ‘Best New Artist’ loss to Maroon 5 and his ‘Album of the Year’ nominee snubs for Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy. “I ain’t crazy I’m just not satisfied,” the now dad-to-be said. “I love Maroon 5, but when I lost for ‘Best New Artist’ to Maroon 5… Or when Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy, neither of them got nominated for ‘Album of the Year,’ or when ‘Ni—s in Paris’ didn’t get nominated for ‘Record of the Year’… So don’t expect to see me at the Grammys this year, you nah mean?!”

The Epic Twitter rant of 2012
Kanye kicked off last year by going on a super long (and informative) Twitter rant at the beginning of January, giving the low-down of everything going on in his life: his fashion career, his creative company DONDA, his ideas on an improved education system and his “desire to design the MTV awards.”

Middle Finger To The Grammys and “Suit & Tie,” February 2013
Most recently, Yeezy took the stage in London where he dropped a bomb on Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z’s latest collaboration. “Remind me again who’s the original super-fly? And I got love for Hov but I ain’t f—ing with that ‘Suit & Tie,” he said. Then, in Paris, ‘Ye mouthed off during the interlude of “Clique” in a sort of rap-rant. This one was more interactive, though; he had the audience chanting “sh–” and the ladies saying “suck my d—,” as a real middle finger to the Grammys. Now everyone can have a cathartic experience.
