Their baby bump reveal at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards was just the beginning. Beyonce and Jay-Z or simply, The Carters, took over pop culture this year along with their little bundle of joy Blue Ivy. We revisit some of hip-hop’s First Family’s greatest moments.
Blue Ivy is born
On Saturday, January 7 in New York City at Lenox Hill Hospital, Blue Ivy Carter was born. Social media came to a halt and fans celebrated the couple’s joyous occasion, predicting what the little one’s future might hold. “A power baby, obviously,” one fan said of Blue’s superstar status, while another added, “It’s gonna be a pretty cool baby, that’s for sure. Probably gonna run New York City by the time she’s 13 or 14.”
Jay-Z does Carnegie Hall, Beyonce wows
Jay-Z kicked off the year with one of his most high-profile gigs to date, performing at NYC’s renowned Carnegie Hall. His lady love, Beyonce, stole the show off-stage looking fabulous post-baby in a form-fitting Alice Temperly dress and red bottom heels. Her first public outing since giving birth, it was clear that Bee had bounced right back into form
Beyonce shares personal life on Tumblr
Beyonce has always been very private in her personal life so fans were delighted when the superstar launched her own Tumblr blog this year and began to tweet (occasionally). “This is my life, today, over the years-through my eyes. My family, my travels, my love. This is where I share with you, This will continue to grow as I do,” Bey wrote on the Tumblr’s introduction page. From then on, she filled the blog with personal photos, candid shots and cutesy moments she shared with her hubby and daughter.
Four Years of Wedded Bliss
He liked it, so he put a ring on it…When you celebrate four years of being married to Beyonce, you go to the best in jewelry. Jigga stopped by hip-hop’s jewel expert, Jacob The Jeweler, to do some shopping seemingly for his wife.
BET Awards Besties
What’s better than one celebrity power couple? Two celebrity power couples! Jayonce hooked up with besties Kanye and Kim Kardashian for a rare double date outing at the 2012 BET Awards. The foursome was all smiles during the ceremony. We can only wonder what was so darned funny…
Call Me, Maybe?
Jay-Z poked fun at his high-profile romance in his Duracell Powermat commercial. A fan accidentally picks up Jay’s cell and sees on the screen that it’s none other than “B” calling. Hmm…we wonder what that convo was about?
Made In America
Jay-Z headlined his first annual Made In America festival in Philly over the summer and although performers like Drake, Maybach Music Group and Skrillex got plenty of love, it was the Jayonce sightings behind-the-scenes that kept fans and media buzzing. Jay hooked up with director Ron Howard to document the entire experience.
The Carters host The Obamas
Jay-Z and Beyonce hosted a huge fundraiser for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign at Jay’s 40/40 Club in NYC, raising $4 million. With only 100 or so guests, this was the party to be at. Oh, did we mention it was $40,000-per-head to get in? How’s that for a velvet rope
BK touches down in BK
Jay-Z made hip-hop history by performing eight back-to-back shows at his newly-opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Jay held off on major guests until the final night when he brought out Beyonce to help him christen his new hometown arena. “Of course I had to let BK touch the stage in BK– well BKC now,” he joked with crowd.
World’s Highest Paid Celebrity Couple
They work hard, they play hard. Jayonce had a whirlwind year and it paid off. Forbes announced that the music powerhouse was this year’s highest paid celebrity couple, raking in some $78 million. Bey pulled in $40 million (and was separately named one of Forbes Most Powerful Women) while Jay came in at $38 million. Talk about building a dynasty.
