Nas Explains How His Daughter Saved His Life

By Alexis Tirado

If Nas ruled the world…it would be a much better place. This season, the rapper is all about the holidays, posing with his pops in Gap ads as well as participating on Friday (December 14) in a toy drive in his hometown Queens. He partnered with Saving Our Daughters (an org that empowers teen girls) to give out toys to kids in need.

“This time of the year is when I really get anxious to help out in any way I can,” Nas told MTV Act. It seems fitting that the Life is Good emcee partnered with Saving Our Daughters as he has so much love for his very own daughter, Destiny Jones, even writing a raw, touching song about her, “Daughters.”

Nas also told MTV Act that he hopes to set an example for his daughter by giving back. “I hope I can even inspire her more to do more,” he said, going on to discuss how Destiny has impacted his life. “She made me more responsible in lots of ways. She made me want to stay around at a time in my life where it didn’t matter. It made me care. I stayed safe and stayed around and alive.”
