The sports world was shaken up on Tuesday night when news broke that boxing great Hector “Macho” Camacho was shot and seriously wounded in his native Puerto Rico. 50 Cent, who has strong ties to the boxing community and last week earned himself a license in Nevada for his SMS Promotions company was still trying to process the Camacho shooting when he spoke to MTV News on Wednesday (November 21) while helping to feed Hurricane Sandy victims in New York.
“It’s a tragedy,” Fif said. “He’s someone that’s obviously a legend in the sport of boxing.”
According to reports, Camacho and another man were shot as they sat in a car in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The other man was killed, but the famed pugilist who rose to fame in the 1980s was rushed to the hospital. It is being reported that he has fallen into a deep coma and may end up brain dead.
50 also wondered what effect the shooting will have on the fighter’s son Hector Camacho, Jr., who is also a professional boxer. “His son is tough, his son is a great fighter,” he said. “I feel for his son in that actual case because he’s following in his father’s footsteps and a great athlete, but I don’t much more about the actual scenario to comment on it.”
RapFix would like to wish Hector “Macho” Camacho a full recovery.
