Pyrotechnics and sultry songstresses were in abundance at the 2012 MTV EMA on Sunday night (November 11), in Frankfurt Germany. Opening the show with a bang was blonde beauty Rita Ora, who descended in a gigantic metal birdcage in a flurry of sparks.
Clad in a red lace bodysuit (reminiscent of Britney’s “Opps I Did It Again” days) and matching sneaks, Rita dominated the stage, belting out “R.I.P” from her debut studio album ORA. And to guard her signature blonde curls from singes, Ora was sure to have an umbrella on hand as she stomped through a veritable rain of fire.
And speaking of fire, the incomparable Alicia Keys also graced the EMA stage last night, performing her girl-power anthem “Girl on Fire.” As Keys showed off her usual vocal acrobatics, aerialists spun just about her head in rings of fire. Looking classy in all-black and a slick chin length bob, Keys certainly turned up the heat, giving Frankfurt one explosive performance. Other notable performances from the night included Carly Ray Jepsen, fun., and the viral behemoth himself PSY, who’s performance of Gangnam Style” featured a surprising cameo from David Hasselhoff.
