Artist Name: Black The Ripper
Location: London, UK
Musical Style: Tackling social issues “for the man dem, the gyal dem, the fam dem, the gang dem.”
Black The Ripper is an artist who doesn’t receive half as much praise as he should for his grime and hip-hop works. One of the more conscious voices in British underground/urban music, the north London MC has spent nearly a decade tackling various issues through his music that people, especially young people, come up against on a regular basis: racism, religion, governmental repression and every other relevant thing in between.
Citing lyrical dons such as Nas, Tupac and Bob Marley as some of his main musical influences, Black The Ripper has been able to connect with an audience who prefer to take a deeper look at life, just like his idols. The lyricist of Guyanese descent’s new track, This Is For The, features a catchy hook from Mercury Records’ new talent, Dot Rotten, and is yet another one for you to sit down, dissect and reflect upon.
