New York University students are in for a treat this coming Spring semester when they see Professor ?uestlove on their syllabus. From DJing, being part of the house band on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” producing for various artists–on top of being a hip hop connoisseur-?uestlove can now add professor to his resume.
?uestlove and Universal Music’s Harry Weinger are teaching a class called “Classic Albums” at the Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The class will take an in-depth look at how certain albums were able to stand the test of time, breaking down music, lyrics, production, business aspects, and more. Some of the albums that NYU students will study include Prince’s Dirty Mind, Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, and The Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique.
This isn’t the first time hip-hop has made an impact at NYU. In 2010, Swizz Beatz was named producer-in-residence.
