Swizz Beatz combined music with his humanitarian efforts by appearing at the Dalai Lama’s One World Concert in Syracuse Tuesday night (October 9). Swizzy and a host of other artists like Nelly Furtado, Natasha Beddingfield and host Whoopi Goldberg joined the spiritual leader for a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” in front of over 20,000 people.
The concert was part of a two-day event at Syracuse University. Rapper Nas was also expected according to Syracuse.com, but he was ultimately a no-show.
Swizz has been a longtime humanitarian and recently, the producer/artist was named the first Global Ambassador for NYC Public Hospitals. “As global ambassador, I am dedicated to bringing awareness to the youth… bringing healing through art and philanthropy work,” Swizz told Vibe.com.
He added at his official induction in Harlem, “Tonight is one of those nights where you want the people to contribute so that all of these beautiful things can happen and we can start expanding even bigger than this.” As he accepted the new position he said, “I want to be the renaissance man for my generation to show them that there are so many more things that we can do out here to move this world to a forward-thinking place.”
