The presidential election is less than a month away, and although the pressure continues to build for both parties, Barack Obama never seems to be shaken (or even irritated to the point of snapping, once in awhile). That is, until his anger translator Luther steps in to break things down.
It was clear from last week’s presidential debate that Obama’s ability to remain calm, composed and maybe too cool in stressful situations is unrivaled. Not even Mitt Romney firing Big Bird seemed to ruffle his feathers, but the stars of Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele” know better than to take him at face value.
Now, as part of MTV’s Power of 12 countdown to Election Day on November 6, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele show us the flipside of level-headed Obama through his Anger Translator Luther, who gave MTV News his take on Nicki Minaj’s controversial “Mitt Romney” lyric.
Minaj drew criticism in early September when she spit a line about the Republican presidential candidate on Lil Wayne’s “Mercy” freestyle that many interpreted as a show of support. The line — “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/ You lazy bitches is f—ing up the economy” — was intended to be humorous, but some fans took it literally. It wasn’t until President Obama himself weighed in that it finally rested. Ever diplomatic, Obama attributed the lyrics to Minaj’s creative genius (read: multiple personalities), saying he wasn’t sure she was really supporting Romney. “I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that, but she likes to play different characters,” he reasoned.
Nicki graciously thanked Obama for understanding her sense of humor, but what does Obama’s anger translator Luther think about the line? Find out in the video above!
Catch the new season of “Key & Peele” Wednesday nights at 10:30p.m. ET on Comedy Central. With one season already under their belts, the two comedians are looking forward to pushing things further in their sketches.
