Is J. Cole firing back shots at Diggy Simmons? Months after the two rappers had lyrical beef (of sorts), a new video has surfaced in which J. Cole seems to be dissing Diggy. “Picture me hating on a young ni— with talent…caked out on his allowance,” Cole spits from a recent performance with Kendrick Lamar in North Carolina. Many are saying this line was directed towards Diggy who famously is the scion of Rev. Run of Run DMC.
This could be payback for Diggy’s rhymes on “What You Say To Me” earlier this year in which the youngster blasted J. Cole’s career and dismissed rumors that Cole had relations with Diggy’s sister, Angela. “The other day I was listening to ‘Purple Rain’/ Couldn’t believe all of the things I heard him say,” Diggy spits.” The 17-year old Simmons continues with “Who Dat, who dat? You know who it is/ Heard you lying on my sis, tellin’ people that you hit/ When ya album drops, I’ma hit you with your brick/ So I’ma bomb first on you since you wanna riff.” Diggy goes on to question Cole’s track record with women calling him a “broke back Jake Gyllenhaal” and then calls his Roc Nation boss Jay-Z into the fray.
Later, Diggy claimed that the diss was leaked without his knowledge and stemmed from him just wanting to defend his sister’s reputation. “It was really just that my sister, over a year ago, told me that he [J. Cole] was saying he did this that and the third with her—because they went same college—but they didn’t even really know each other like that, so it wasn’t like that,” Diggy said. “And she also told me that he subliminally talked about her in a song called “Purple Rain,” which was also false. So it was just me sticking up for my family,” he continued. “That’s all it really was. I didn’t leak it or anything, it got leaked last night. I was at the movies and my boy hit me and he was like ‘What You Say To Me” leaked, because I did that record last year.
