After Nas used the dissolution of his marriage with Kelis as inspiration on his critically-acclaimed Life is Good album earlier this year, rumors are swirling today that the Queens rap legend was out on a "date" with his ex-wife in Los Angeles last night (September 2).
The rumors, which are not confirmed by any photographic evidence nor comments by either party, were relayed via an eyewitness report published on the gossip site MediaTakeOut. According to their post, a male fan tried to approach Kelis after seeing her at an uncited show in the LA area. "Kelis began walking out and then I looked back, Nas pulled his fishermans hat down and tried to walk out quickly," reads the report. "So I yelled out, 'Hey Nasty Nas,' and he just smiled and walked by."
A reunion between Nas and Kelis, who finalized their divorce two years ago, still seems unlikely. Throughout Life Is Good, and particularly on the track "Bye Baby," Nas engages in some raw emotional honesty to detail their failed marriage in all of its ups and downs.
Most pointedly, he appears on the album's cover art sitting in a white suit with Kelis' green wedding dress slung across his knees – an image that became the basis for the "Bye Baby" video, which finds Nas wandering through an empty house taking stock of the love he lost. The song and album conclude with the rapper moving on, leaving his marriage as a relic of the past.
