Gabby Douglas Gets Props From Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Lil’ Wayne For Gold Medal

The hip-hop community is sharing its excitement and pride over the gold medal win by US gymnast Gabby Douglas. Beyonce shared a congratulatory note on her blog yesterday stating, “A huge congratulations to 16 year old Olympic Gold medalist Gabby Douglas-Wow-What a thrill to watch you take this Gold! I can tell you’ve been working hard for so long-Enjoy this moment, it’s yours. Thank you for inspiring all of us! Love, B”

Other stars also shared their elation via social media. “Glad i lived to see what Gabby Douglas did in the Olympics. Icon” tweeted Lil’ Wayne, producer Timbaland added, “yessir bigups to @gabrielledoug u did ur thang” and singer Ciara shared “Not only am I happy 4 U. I’m happy for your family 2! The sacrifices payed off! Keep inspiring Young Girls and Women like Me?”.

Nicki Minaj shared a congratulations that Gabby didn’t respond to and then added this joking tweet, “Oh wow, I tweeted about #Gabby earlier but she responds to@LilTunechi and not me? U know what? Ima fight u. I’ve had it!!!”

The teen Olympian was moved by the celebrity outpouring of support. Hahaha I was trying 2find it! I PROMISE! THANK U SO MUCH! OMG IM NUMB RIGHT NOW! #SPEECHLESS” she said to Nicki.

Gabby, known as the “Flying Squirrel” because of her height while performing, is the first African-American gymnast to win an all-around gold medal. She is the fourth American woman to win the all-around, following Mary Lou Retton (1984), Carly Patterson (2004) and Nastia Liukin (2008).
