Rick Ross Drops New Street Single ‘Hold Me Back’

By Carter Maness

With the sultry “Touch ‘N You,” Rick Ross has a summer-ready, Usher-assisted song for the pop charts. But what about the streets? Rozay answered that question today (July 2) with the new motivational banger “Hold Me Back.” Listen to the single after the jump.

Off of Ross’ upcoming God Forgives, I Don’t, which is set for release July 31 via Def Jam, the track is pure trunk-rattling fury with a trademark operatic beat. It finds the Maybach Music Group honcho in gruff boss mode, claiming that no soul can hold him back from reaching his full potential.

The track, which references Wale and Meek Mill’s “Actin’ Up,” has a beat that sounds like “B.M.F.” has been in the gym working on its muscles over the last three years. “Fabricate ’bout your future/ All my fabrics imported,” Rozay raps in his well-known shout. “Fornicate in my fortress/ 40K still my mortgage/ 24K my toilet/ All my taxes reported/ All my exes deported.”

It’s a busy month for Ross. Maybach Music Group released their latest compilation, Self Made Vol. 2, on June 26, and just last night (July 1), the group performed a raw medley at the annual BET Awards.
