New Jersey never did get the rap credit that it deserves. Trying to shine, while neighboring hip-hop’s birthplace, does have its difficulties but Jersey has never had a problem producing top-notch rap talent. From Queen Latifah and Naughty by Nature to Redman and Lauryn Hill, NJ’s rap contribution stretches way beyond the state’s boarders. And now it may be time to add some new names to the long list of Jersey favorites, introducing: 280 Zone Boyz.
Hailing from Newark, New Jersey rappers Shoota G. and Rocco take their group name from I-280, the highway which runs through Essex County joining neighborhoods like Newark and East Orange. Like their namesake the 280 Zone Boyz link respective NJ hoods with their music, standing as new representatives for their native Brick City.
Helmed by DJ Scoob Doo (of Young Money fame), 280’s latest mixtape Kall of Duty stands as a collection of energetic street-drenched material. Check Mixtape Daily for their new joint “Lock-N-Load.” Duck down!
