Following Nicki’s on-air argument with Hot 97 personality Funkmaster Flex last night, Kim tweeted, “Smfh so disappointed in Flex this is Nonsense !!! On my way to my show …Over this ! Nebraska !!! See u in a few !” which many saw as support of Nicki’s side of the debate, but it seems unlikely considering earlier events.
A couple days earlier when Nicki was hanging out with Foxy Brown, Kim had this to say: “Hot damn ho here we go again. Monkey see monkey do. I heard the haters are joining forces against the Queen. LMAO !!!! Have a great show!!! Break a leg!!!! Hahahaha!!!! My love for the female hip hop movement has always been genuine. All the females I’ve been bringing out recently I have love for. If u see anybody else doing it … Its not genuine …Know it’s only to copy and compete with me …….. For those of u who have been brainwashed by the fraud …Let’s open our eyes now people …the clone is not bringing ladies out for the luv. It’s strictly because I’m doing it ! Love u Team Kim and all my fans across the world ..they’ll believe one day very”
Following Nicki’s canceled Summer Jam performance, the rapper and Flex got on the phone to discuss what happened. Nicki Minaj held steadfast that she pulled out due to Lil’ Wayne and her management’s wishes after Hot 97 DJ, Peter Rosenberg, criticized her music as not “real hip-hop.” Flex agreed that Rosenberg chose the wrong time and place to voice his negative opinions. “It’s not about his opinion, because I have opinions about DJs on Hot 97 and I have opinions on Hot 97,” she countered. “But when it’s about us uniting people [for] your show, I wouldn’t dare come on your stage and say something negative about Hot 97, leading up to that concert.”
“My fans at Summer Jam didn’t appreciate his comments, nor did my fans who were watching the livestream appreciate his comments,” Nicki added. “This is streaming to the world. Nicki Minaj opened up that stream to show to kids in London and Paris, it was hosted on my website and those requests came from your station, I posted the links.” The heated back-and-forth continued and ended with both sides essentially agreeing to disagree. Nicki announced that she’ll hold a free concert in NYC this summer to make good with her fans.
During a May 17 interview on NYC’s Power 105 Breakfast Club morning show, Kim blasted Nicki for copying her style. “On her new album, she has a song called ‘Automatic,’ and the song is so similar to the song that I played for Slim [head of Cash money],” Kim charged. “The problem with her is she was very catty with it. I never had a problem with her — I was always, always nice with her, always. She was a very obnoxious person, but I was always nice with her.”
