Dr. Dre had a special surprise in store for fans during the closing night show of Coachella last weekend, summoning deceased rapper Tupac Shakur to perform alongside him as a hologram. The second weekend of Coachella wraps up with another set from Dre and Snoop Dogg on Sunday night (April 22) and fans are surely curious to see what will happen tonight. We assume that Holo-Pac will make another appearance, but will Nate Dogg join him onstage, as rumors said he might?
In the days leading up to the Dre and Snoop’s first show (which also included performances from Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Warren G and Wiz Khalifa) there were rumors floating around that both Tupac and Nate Dogg would partake via hologram. Those rumors were hard to swallow before we saw Holo-Pac with our very own eyes, but was there any truth to the Nate Dogg rumor? Since Dre started out Coachella with a bang, setting the internet on fire with news of the hologram, it’s possible that he could be saving Nate Dogg for the final night.
Despite the many moral debates about resurrecting dead performers, Dre has maintained his excitement for the hologram.TMZ recently caught up with him in Los Angeles, where he enthusiastically answered questions about it “Hopefully, different artists are able to bring out their favorite artists,” he said. “Hopefully, we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. Let’s see what happens.”
In terms of how the hologram might develop, Dre says he hopes that eventually it can look even more realistic. “I’m not sure right now, [there's] a technology that’s happening where the hologram could be 360 degrees,” he explained. “Right now it’s flat, it just looks like it’s 3-dimensional from the front, but I’m working on some new and different things for the future.”
