Diddy adds another notch to his Hip-Hop hyphenate status. The Chairman of Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group unveiled plans to start his own music television network called REVOLT today which will feature music and pop culture programming like music videos, live performances and interviews. The network is slated to launch in 2013. Diddy shared about his channel, “I’m honored by the opportunity to be part of this effort to bring diverse programming to the masses. Marked by this partnership with Comcast, my hope is that this new network will spark a revolution in entertainment and encourage other media and communications companies to bring REVOLT to their audiences.”
There will be special emphasis on social media to fuel the channel. I’m thrilled to be at the helm to usher in a completely new model of television that brings together the artist community, social media, and cutting edge technology,” said Diddy. “The opportunity to create a home for music, artists, and fans to communicate in an authentic way is truly unique. REVOLT will celebrate and recreate the platform that helped launch my career, and give the world a new way to experience music on television.”
Comcast, the nation’s largest cable provider, has also announced other independent, minority-owned networks that will be backed by celebrities including basketball legend Magic Johnson and director Robert Rodriguez. Johnson is set to launch Aspire, a network driven by positive programming for African American families, while Rodriguez’s El Rey will be an English-language-based entertainment channel geared towards Latino audiences.
