On Thursday, MTV News continued the countdown for “Hottest MCs in the Game VII” rolling out Meek Mill at #7. As the list stands thus far, Wale is at #10, Wiz Khalifa at #9 and Big Sean holds the #8 spot. The battle between Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean for the #8 spot was a tough one, which came down to the wire, with a last minute vote bumping Wiz from #8 in favor of Sean.
MTV News’ Senior Hip-Hop Writer and Brain Trust member Rob Markman felt that Wiz earned his spot on the list, citing the Pittsburgh rapper’s progress after being crowned MTV’s 2010 Hottest Breakthrough MC. “He dropped three albums in a year if you count the Cabin Fever mixtape, which was all original material and his album with Snoop [Mac & Devin Go to High School],” Markman told Sway during Wednesday's episode of "RapFix Live." “He hit the sales charts, hit the road, hit the Forbes list…usually when we talk about the Forbes top hip-hop earners, it’s Birdman, Wayne, Jay, Kanye and…Wiz Khalifa? For your rookie year, that’s a big deal.”
Despite everything, Markman still sticks by the Hip-Hop Brain Trust’s final decision, and don't worry, there’s plenty more controversy to come.
