After Wednesday night’s (November 30) Grammy Nominations Concert, hip-hop fans were a bit irritated with the fact that Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got overlooked for an Album of the Year nomination, but at least he has a good sense of humor about it. During a Watch the Throne tour stop in his hometown Chicago last night, Kanye took the blame for the snub and apologized for dropping two great albums in one year.
“Everybody came to me last night like ‘congratulations,’ cause you know I have the most Grammy nominations once again, like we always do at this time,” he told the crowd. “But you know, people say no ‘you ain’t have the album of the year or record of the year,’ but I figured out though, that’s my fault, for dropping Watch the Throne and Dark Fantasy in the same year. I should’ve just spaced it out just a little bit more. But don’t worry ‘cause me and Hov gon’ keep on making sh-t.” That was followed by a performance of “All Falls Down.”
Despite the snub for Album of the Year, Ye was nominated in five other categories, including Best Rap Album, where My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy will compete with Watch the Throne. His “Otis” collaboration with Jay-Z, was nominated in two categories, for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. See the list below.
Song of the Year (“All of the Lights” featuring Rihanna, Kid Cudi and Fergie), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“All of the Lights”) Best Rap Album (Watch The Throne and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy), Best Rap Performance (“Otis” with Jay-Z), Best Rap Song (“Otis” with Jay-Z).
