More than a few luxury brands can thank rappers for introducing their goods to new demographics and Versace is certainly among them. In The Fader’s December/January issue, Italian designer Dontella Versace gives a shout out to the Notorious B.I.G. for sporting her clothing and sharing his passion for the brand with his fans. In her interview Donatella calls the Brooklyn-born rapper “amazing,” explaining that she’d encountered him at several of her European fashion shows.
“I think Biggie was amazing,” Versace said. “He came to my shows in Paris many times, and we’d see each other often. He always used to talk so nicely about my family. I think he was so smart, so intelligent. He had such a mind. So I loved what he was doing and how he was giving people a way to know about Versace—I do think he was giving people a way to know about Versace—I do think a lot of people started to know about Versace because of him.”
Biggie can be heard rapping about Versace on songs that include “Hypnotize” and “Big Poppa.”
