While many of us are getting back into the groove after the Thanksgiving holiday, Trey Songz still has a reason to celebrate—today is the R&B singer’s 27th birthday. The heartthrob took to Twitter on Monday morning writing, “Thank u Lord for another day let alone another year…I am nothing without YOU!!!!! #happybdayTrigga (yea third person…what?!!!)”
Besides his preemptive birthday celebrations, the Virginia native was busy performing in New York City this past weekend, in the name of charity. On Friday night (November 25), Trey held a benefit concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom to raise money for his Angels With Heart Foundation, which was sponsored by Hot 97 radio station. After singing for a worthy cause, Trey Songz rewarded himself and kicked it at club Providence, in Midtown Manhattan. Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex was the night’s entertainment. Next, the birthday boy flew out to Las Vegas to continue his celebration, partying it up at club LAVO.
Though he now has devoted fans all around the world, Trey-Trey didn’t originally aspire to a career in music, due to his shyness. He was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia and he got his big break in 2002 when he was signed to a Atlantic Records as a high school student.
Three years later, Songz released his debut album I Gotta Make It. The album made its way onto the Billboard charts and he’s since released Trey Day, Ready and Passion, Pain & Pleasure, all of which have been successful. Trey Songz’s second album, 2007’s Trey Day, featured hit singles such as, “Can’t Help But Wait,” and it was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2009 his third album Ready clocked in six more hit singles: “I Need a Girl,” “Successful,” “LOL Smiley Face,” “I Invented Sex,” “Say Aah” and “Neighbors Know My Name.”
In the past month, Trey Songz has dropped two new mixtapes, #LemmeHolDatBeat2 and Anticipation 2 and his latest EP, Inevitable will be officially released on November 29.
Happy Birthday Trey Songz!
