Back in January, Snoop Dogg announced plans to star in the stoner comedy High School alongside fellow “recreational herb” enthusiast Wiz Khalifa. Although the film was originally set for a straight-to-DVD release on April 20, the date came and went without much fanfare. Finally, on Monday (November 14), the duo reveled the cover art for the collaborative soundtrack that accompanies the movie (now titled Mac & Devin Go To High School) and confirmed that the music will be released on December 13.
The soundtrack will debut with the rebooted title, led by the upcoming single and video for “Young, Wild & Free,” which also features crooner Bruno Mars. Snoop and Wiz are the latest hip-hop figures to emulate the legendary Cheech & Chong, following in the footsteps of Redman and Method Mad who appeared in the 2001 film How High.
In Mac & Devin Go To High School Wiz Khalifa plays Devin Overstreet, a whiz kid senior with valedictorian honors who is having trouble penning a speech that lists his interests beyond academics. Snoop Dogg plays Mac, a 15-year senior who has all the social graces Devin lacks but none of the smarts to go along with them. The pair has a scant three weeks to learn each other’s respective traits in order to make it to the next level.
To drum up interest in the new project and film, Wiz and Snoop will take their hazy show on the road for a quick six-city jaunt dubbed “The High School Tour” beginning in New York on December 5 before ending on December 13 in Snoop’s backyard, Los Angeles.
