The BET Hip-Hop Awards 2011 in Atlanta were packed with plenty of star power with the recently freed T.I. acclimating himself again with rap’s elite and troubled rap vet DMX giving a passionate performance with some assistance from Swizz Beatz. But it appears two of the game’s biggest stars weren't present for the celebration.
R&B star and budding rapper Chris Brown won three BET Hip Hop Awards trophies at this year’s showing – however, the Virginia native was not in the house to accept any of his awards. Hip-Hop veteran and collaborator Busta Rhymes was gracious enough to accept the awards on behalf of the F.A.M.E. singer.
Breezy won trophies for Best Hip Hop Video for his Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes assisted track “Look At Me Now” and also took home the Reese’s Perfect Combo Award (Best Collab) for the song as well. Fans also voted Brown the winner in the People’s Champ Award category for the wildly popular smash from Breezy.
Young Money head honcho Lil Wayne was awarded trophies in the Best Live Performer and Lyricist Of The Year categories, although like Brown, Weezy was also absent from the ceremonies of the evening. Even more curious was that not one person from the Young Money camp saw fit to attend the BET Hip Hop Awards, even though Pink Friday starlet Nicki Minaj was herself a winner of the Made-You-Look and MVP Of The Year trophies.
No word from the Young Money and Chris Brown camps as to why the stars didn’t appear at the BET Hip Hop Awards this year. However, during one acceptance speech moment, Bussa Bus noted that Chris Brown was "getting a lot of money" on his tour thus alluding to a possible reason for Breezy's absence.
