Givenchy Creative Director and fashion designer Riccardo Tisci has found himself aligned with two of hip-hop’s brightest stars after designing the elaborate cover for the joint album from megastars Kanye West and Jay-Z, Watch The Throne. The jet setting Italian has catapulted himself into rap infamy with the album design and has been having quite a banner year as well in his own industry. Jay-Z’s lifestyle blog Life + Times caught up with Tisci as he discussed vacations, his love of hip-hop and working with Hov and Yeezy.
Tisci afforded himself a luxury few will ever see with a month-long vacation in the paradise of Ibiza. “I went to Ibiza. I was supposed to go to Turkey. But, I had so much fun in Ibiza that I decided to spend the entire month in there,” said Tisci. “I love music and I have lots of friends who DJ, and it’s one of the best places for music.”
When approached by Kanye West to tackle the album cover, Tisci admitted to having some doubt and said that he wasn’t ready. A professed fan of hip-hop and the dynamic duo, Tisci delighted in his retelling of the project. “When they first asked me, I was really scared. And then, we began the discussions about movies, DJs, general things. So, I felt that the collaboration was necessary.”
Perhaps Riccardo Tisci will need to watch his own fashion throne as Kanye West plans to unveil his S/S 12 womens wear collection at Paris Fashion Week this coming Saturday (October 1). Fans and fashion insiders have been speculating for months what the inventive producer and rapper will debut at the lavish affair. Could a clothing collaboration happen between Kanye West and Riccardo Tisci? Stay tuned.
