As the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday evening (August 28) neared conclusion, the finale performance of the night from Young Money leader Lil Wayne was a highly anticipated affair with onlookers enlightened by a blistering performance from the New Orleans native ahead of his album release the next day.

Wayne opened his set with the female friendly track “How To Love” before launching into a rock remake of his Rick Ross-assisted single “John.” As promised, when the clock struck twelve Wayne’s much sought after album Tha Carter IV album was released and all of the talk was about the record, his VMA performance and his attire the previous night.

After removing his fedora and shirt during his smooth opener, Lil Wayne thrashed about onstage in a pair of jeans and leggings combo that has become a favored item amongst the streetwear fashion forward. Wayne reportedly sported a pair that was adorned with a grey and black leopard print which caused social media network Twitter to explode with comments questioning what Lil Wayne was wearing. Just a few months back, Wayne’s gear was also the topic of discussion at the 2011 BET Awards when the rapper sported a pair of shorts that many originally thought were boxers.

Fashion company Tripp NYC took credit as the makers of the leopard print jeans Wayne was rocking on Sunday night. “Check out Lil Wayne rocking Tripp NYC leopard print pants during his MTV VMA’s performance!” the company tweeted.

Lil Wayne is celebrating yet another successful album release following the news that his ninth studio album Tha Carter IV has been projected by Billboard to sell 700-850K in its first week. A potential top slot on the charts would make Carter Wayne’s third number one release.
