Advertising wizard, author and former record exec Steve Stoute has been behind the scenes in support of some of music industry top selling albums, and has established a rapport with some of the top names in the game as a result. Never too far removed as an insider on the rap scene, Stoute was interviewed recently and offered some commentary regarding the ongoing and currently brewing feud between rap giants Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. Steve Stoute has already declared the supposed beef a no contest however.
In a preview of an upcoming interview with writer Jas of JasFly, Stoute offered up some stern commentary about Lil Wayne’s recent shot at Jay-Z heard recently on the track “It’s Good” from Tha Cater IV. “For Jay-Z to do anything that resembles moving backwards right now would be insane. And a Jay-Z beef is moving backwards,” said Stoute. “Jay is so much bigger than rap at this point. He’s a movement. And THAT’S where his head is at. That’s where his focus is. And no one is on his level, even worthy of him battling with. No one. So you probably won’t see that happen.”
Wayne’s verse on “It’s Good” featuring Jadakiss and Young Money soldier Drake was seemingly directed towards Jay-Z, and the defiant Young Money captain revealed in a recent interview that he has no intentions of backing down from anyone regardless of their status. According to Stoute’s account, fans hoping for a rap battle between Hov and Weezy won’t get a chance to witness such a collision.
Steve Stoute’s upcoming book The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy will be released on September 8.
