Watch out Birdman and Jamie Foxx, Lloyd is looking to compete on the head tattoo tip. The New Orleans singer appeared on BET's daily 106 & Park television program today to promote his new album King of Hearts out in stores when he unveiled a new look. Lloyd excited fans when he showed off a massive tattoo of guns and roses wrapped around his domepiece. According to the singer the art is part dedication to his grandfather who passed away last year.
"I lost my best friend in the world, July 4th of last year, my grandfather" Lloyd told the 106 & Park audience. "The whole time I did it I just thought about him. The good times we shared together. Every July 4th I go down to New Orleans and I visit him and spend time with the famiy and stuff."
According to Lloyd, his latest piece of ink is a reflection of his personality.
"I'm a contrast, i'm a walking contrast" the singer continued. "I got from hard to soft. I go from the guns to roses, which is in my tat and I like to go from the streets to the sheets. I make street savvy R&B music but I also like to slow it down and be sensual at times."
Last year during the BET awards Lloyd decided to take his look in a different direction as he began to record his new album King of Hearts by cutting his hair.
As Lloyd started working on his new album, King of Hearts, that would be released through a new label (Interscope) and overseen by a new primary producer (Polow Da Don), the singer realized the project was the culmination of a period of growth for him.
To mark the moment, he decided to chop his trademark tresses.
"The only constant in life is change, and it's about evolving, and hopefully, changing for the better," Lloyd told MTV News on the BET Hip-Hop Awards black carpet. "I've changed a lot about me inside; there's things that you can't really see. The haircut is just, what I call the icing on the cake. It's just really about not being afraid to try anything new, which is what you hear with 'Lay It Down,' which is what you see with 'Right Now.'
"And with King of Hearts, I wanted to take a new approach, a new energy. And hair carries energy — not necessarily bad, but old. And this is a new me."
