Fresh off a touring stint with West Coast veteran Snoop Dogg, the duo of Beck Motely and Bon Voyage – making up The Airplane Boys – released their mixtape Where’ve You Been this past May and received a bit of acclaim from music writers and fans. The Canadian pair has paired glossy and high-styled visuals to their latest single “Gold Ribbons” and the upbeat and frenetic pace of the track matches the pace of the video.
The video opens up with Beck Motley and Bon Voyage both reflecting on their relationships but having somewhat varying results. Beck is seen awaiting his girlfriend while Bon chases down a blond beauty for a quick chat. Beck Motley’s auto-tuned vocals jump out at the front and carry for a while before Bon Voyage kicks into gear with a fast-paced rhyme. Beck also gets to flex his rap muscles as well on the entertaining second verse.
The Weeknd producer Illangelo oversaw development for The Airplane Boys latest release in an executive producer’s role and the duo’s mix of Hip Hop, pop, soul and electronic elements has connected well with listeners of the group. Just as The Weeknd got serious buzz after heavy industry cosigns, The Airplane Boys may be on the same path after the tour with Snoop and serving as an opening act for G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean.
