The duo of Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 – better known as Bad Meets Evil – reconnect over ten years later after their fan favorite debut “Nuttin’ To Do” single and are just days away from releasing their highly anticipated Hell: The Sequel EP to the public. The EP’s first single, “Fast Lane,” gets the big budget video treatment and the clip is just as bonkers as the punchline laden rhymes from Slim Shady and Nickel Nine.
Royce jumps on the Supa Dups produced track first and from the onset, the animated words and special effects that compliment Nickel’s rhymes are in exact tune with the subject of his verse. In a humorous moment during the clip, Royce dons an old school style sweat suit and Kangol ensemble in a proud b-boy stance but suddenly Slim shoves his partner out of the shot with the same outfit and then launches into his verse. Em, who isn’t shy to name names, even places Young Money starlet Nicki Minaj into his verse in his own unique fashion.
Fans on Twitter commented on the new clip in droves, with some focusing on the song as well as the actual visuals. User @Jay_got_jokes remarked, “That sh– was crazy. Both of em went IN and the vid was pretty dope too.” Fan @quality86 added, “Em killt it…The video was good, Royce was Royce and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”
Many fans appreciated the humor of the video, especially in the end where Em and Royce take turns attempting to grandstand one another. “3rd time in a row I’ve watched the “Fast Lane” video how funny is it at the end!” said user @YoungGodSon.
User @GeeSpin tweeted a warning to other artists after viewing the clip. “Wow….just saw Fast Lane video. I feel sorry for the rest of you rappers this summer. Best video I have seen in a while,” said @GeeSpin. The video also features cameos from Shady Records super crew Slaughterhouse as well towards the end.
