Tech N9ne Packs Out His Hometown Kansas Tour Stop With High Energy

By Jiro Kohl

For some rappers, it’s impossible to understand their popularity and impact until you visit their hometown. Tech N9ne, an underground king in the Midwest is one such artist.

MTV was out in Kansas City, MO to catch up with the Strange Music general and got the chance to attend his hometown stop on his “All 6′s And 7′s” tour, which was the 9th stop on his 62-city tour to support his twelfth album.

Touring has always been the lifeblood of Tech’s movement, spending an average of over 200 days on the road annually. It’s no surprise that he and his Strange Music cohorts, ¡Mayday!, Big Scoob, Brotha Lynch Hung, Kutt Calhoun, Stevie Stone, and Jay Rock, packed out the Midland Theater in Downtown Kansas City, and delivered a high-energy, carefully choreographed show.

Tech was a breakdancer before he was an emcee, and the showmanship stuck, resulting in coordinated dance routines with Krizz Kaliko and Brotha Lynch Hung. He tore through classics like “Riotmaker,” and “Einstein,” as well as cuts from his new album, like “He’s A Mental Giant,” before closing out the show with “I’m A Player,” joined by the full Strange Music roster.

It’s safe to say that we left with a full understanding of why it is that Tech N9ne is royalty in the Midwest, and why the rap industry is finally catching up to his Midwest rapid fire spit.
