The Rock the Bells 2011 festival may go down as the biggest hip-hop tour of the year.
Luminary artists like Lauryn Hill, Nas, Erykah Badu, Mobb Deep, Raekwon and Ghostface will all perform their most revered albums in their entirety during the four-city run.
In a press release for the festival, Nas spoke on performing his 1994 classic debut Illmatic. "For years, people have been asking me to do Illmatic in so many ways, from stage plays to movies to books, but the time wasn't right. Where music is going now, the time is right," Nas said in the statement. "This will be my biggest production, and it only makes sense to do it on the best rap tour, which also happens to be a brand I've built and am a partner in. Can't wait to kill it with my comrades AZ, Premo and Pete Rock!"
In addition to Nas’ Illmatic, Lauryn will perform The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Mobb Deep will perform their sophomore LP The Infamous and Raekwon will rock his 1995 classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… alongside his partner-in-rhyme Ghostface Killah.
Also scheduled to perform is Cypress Hill, Black Star, Black Moon, Slaughterhouse, Souls of Mischief, Curren$y, Mac Miller, Big K.R.I.T. Freddie Gibbs, Blu, The Immortal Technique and many more.
The festival kicks off in San Bernardino, California on August 20, then heads to Mountain View, California on August 27, New York City September 3 and concludes in Boston on September 10.
