Hot 97’s DJ Mister Cee has some explaining to do. Last night the Twitter world was flummoxed over word of legendary DJ being arrested wednesday, but the chatter was more so about the details surrounding the event.
The story making the Twitter rounds was provided by Jacky Jasper’s DiaryofaHollywoodStreetKing.com and noted that Cee was allegedly caught in a car receiving fellatio from an unnamed 20 year-old male. Many were quick to indict Mr. Cee sight unseen but skeptics pointed to some holes in the story. Mainly, that the NYPD’s 1st precinct is not “between West Streets and Watts Street” as the story described.
Bucky Turco of Animal New York did some digging and confirmed that Calvin Lebrun (Cee’s real name, or Labrun if you’re going by Wikipedia) was in fact arrested on Wednesday, March 30 and charged with “public lewdness.”
Nowhere in the report is there any mention of what the particular lewd act was or who it was with.
Earlier today Mister Cee publicly spoke out against the reports, denying the allegations.
Time to clear my name NY .. Stand Up Brooklyn they shootin ( Haters ) this is my city you can’t hurt me lets gooooooooo” Cee wrote via Twitter. “Never was i in a car with anyone when i was detained.. The facts will come out and show what is being reported is totally untrue” the damed DJ wrote.
Some of Cee’s peers have come to his defense, including fellow Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex via his blog and Ed Lover via Twitter. The latter posted the following message: “Please stop spreading that nasty rumor around about my friend DJ Mister Cee! It’s just wrong and untrue!”
No matter if the reports are found to be true or false, the allegations should have no bearing on his musical legacy in hip-hop. He was the DJ of Brooklyn rap legend Big Daddy Kane, helped the Notorious B.I.G. get heard by the masses then later executive producing the late rapper’s Ready To Die debut album. Mister Cee’s skills on the wheels of steel (heard on the “Throwback at Noon” and “Friday Night Live on Hot 97″ as well as clubs throughout the tri-state are) are still top notch.
Today on the Throwback at Noon Mr. Cee did his talking by the records he played, including Jay-Z’s “Can I Live,” Game’s “Hate It Or Love It,” and Alchemist’s “Hold You Down.”
However, with unsubstantiated rumors of this incident, fans, gossip mongers and the curious are eagerly awaiting to get the Finisher’s side of the story in his own words.
