Nicki Minaj reps very hard for her Cash Money/Young Money team, even when the starlet is relaxing backstage after ripping her set at the "I Am Music II" opener last night in Rhode Island. Nicki shouted out the CEO of the Cash Money Records Bryan “Birdman” Williams in preparation for today’s RapFix Live segment where the mogul is our featured guest.
One of the most successful record independent labels in the game, Birdman began the label with his brother Ronald “Slim” Williams in New Orleans in 1990. After hitting a few bumps in the road, Cash Money flourished and gaining notoriety in the music business eventually leading to a distribution deal with Universal Records in 1998. Former flagship artist Juvenile became the label’s face and released the multi-platinum 400 Degreez album.
Crew conflict broke apart the group, with Juvenile and Hot Boyz member B.G. claiming Birdman and Slim wronged him financially. Even with that, Birdman and in-house producer Manny Fresh carried the label with the release of their Big Tymers albums. With the success of Cash Money offshoot label Young Money and their wildly popular artists, Birdman has raked in a lot of cash but also showed an amazing amount of loyalty to his YMCMB family.
Keep it locked on RapFix to see the man himself speak with our host Sway about his increasingly growing empire.
