Jadakiss has always been a skilled MC. But the Yonkers rapper knew he was a problem when the Notorious B.I.G. gave him his official co-sign.
“BIG tell you, You got it, you got it,” Jadakiss said in the Streets Talk DVD video. “No A&R, no executive, nobody nowhere… Even if I ain’t make it, he told me I was nice. I made it the day he told me I was nice. That’s the day I made it. That was with no money involved or none of that.”
As a member of Bad Boy Records, Jadakiss would go on to rock with the late rapper on a handful of songs, including “Last Day” from Life After Death and “It’s All About the Benjamins (Remix)” from Diddy’s No Way Out.
Kiss also revealed BIG’s plans to show off how skilled he and the LOX (Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch) were by simply doing it, not just saying it. “He said, ‘Yo, we going [to] stop saying how nice we are, just do wild shit,” remembered Jadakiss. “You know what kind of battery that put in my back?! This nigga BIG is telling me, ‘Yo me and you going to stop saying how nice we are—I mean the whole LOX—we just going to start doing shit. Yeah that’s crazy. I went home after that like a robot.”
The Notorious BIG would surely approve of his former labelmate’s career. Jadakiss is still one of hip-hop’s most respected lyricists and has gone on to release three solo albums, the latest being 2009’s The Last Kiss.
This is just the beginning of an upcoming partnership between DJ Scoob Doo and Jadakiss that includes videos, tours and much much more. It's a movement!
