Hailing from Calvert County, Maryland and the small town of Dunkirk, freestyle wizard Wax (aka Big Wax) has been setting the Web on fire with a series of off-the-dome rhymes alongside his twin brother Herbal T for a few years. With his profile suddenly growing, Wax sat down with MTV to discuss his big moves for 2011.

Now based in Los Angeles, Wax made a name for himself on YouTube after a video on he and his brother’s shared page showed the rapper dropping a near flawless freestyle over Stephen Marley’s dancehall track “Traffic Jam” – all while driving. The three-year video has over a million views to date.

Wax fashions himself as a man of many hats, rattling off an impressive array of talents. “I’m a musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and an all-around dumb ass,” said the rapper with a chuckle. Wax added, “I play the guitar, bass guitar and drums and sort of play keys.”
Brimming with the same confidence that comes across in his various freestyles online and the mixtapes, Wax predicted for himself a big year. “By the end of this year, you know, I’ll have a major label album out,” shared the Marylander. “I’ll have several singles out. I just wanna establish myself to the point where I don’t have to worry about money.”

Wax also said he will continue to tour around the country while working on his and revealed to MTV that he will be performing at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago this summer. “I’m doing Lollapalooza this summer,” said the laid back talent. “I used to go to Lollapalooza when I was younger and I was always excited about that. I always thought how great it would be to play there and now I’m playing there. It’s great. It’s fricking great.”

Wax will be releasing his new mixtape Scrublife with EOM in March and the new single and video “Don’t Need” is out now.
