Lil Wayne Drops ‘You And I’ Snippet Track, Fans React

By Kathy Iandoli

Since Lil Wayne left the clink last year, he’s surfaced on host of songs and yesterday (February 23rd) ‘Tune released a preview to his own new track.

Dwayne Carter was released from Rikers Island on November 4th, 2010. Since his departure from New York’s the prison facility, he’s been back to work on new material. His first post-prison appearance on record was for Birdman’s “Fire Flame” remix. He also assisted the likes of Mike Posner on the “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” remix, along with Short Dawg for “Money In My Pocket” remix, as well as a remix to Bruno Mars’ hit single “Grenade” and Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now.” While Wayne’s features reveal a sobered Weezy, his rhyming are as sharp as ever.

His latest snippet titled, “You and I” is no different from the brand new Weezy we’ve grown to know and love.

The snippet, just running a little over 30 seconds, was first leaked through the Twitter page of DJ RellyRell and then circulated by New York City DJ Funkmaster Flex’s new blog, In Flex We Trust. The song appears to be a song about love lost with Wayne rhyming about driving his Bugatti down memory lane.

Despite the fact that the snippet runs shorter than an iTunes sample, Wayne fans are already loving the song all over Twitter.

“That Lil Wayne ‘You and I’ is dope!” @BrentWalkerJr tweets. Fans like @Anthonyjohnc21are already tweeting quotes from the track: “Love’s a bitch but everybody needs her…..#Lil’ Wayne ‘You And I’”. Along with @FelipeZS7, “’I think I need to toughen up, cuz love knocks you down and I feel like I’ve been sucker punched.’ Lil Wayne- You and I.”

Others are waiting for the complete track (@_ChelCK : “I’m waiting for the full version of you and I by lil wayne.:)”) but are hopeful for the product, as @BigSquill tweets “This Lil Wayne – You and I snippet sounds like it’s gonna be a dope track.”

“Lil wayne’s ‘You and I’ is going to be legit,” @LickMyTwitBitch agrees.

If the reaction to “You and I” is any indication of Wayne’s upcoming success, then Tha Carter IV will surely break as many records as Tha Carter III did.

This teaser single arrives as Lil Wayne begins his “I Am Music II” tour, a spring tour hitting 24 dates in North America with Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and Travis Barker. With Wayne still working hard to release Tha Carter IV, no word yet if this track will be an official single off that upcoming project.
